I hope you are enjoying pleasant summer weather while you are reading this. It was written during one of those rainy days in late May.

Our Awards luncheon at Camelot honoured Brian Kilrea as our Celebrity Award recipient. We viewed our 2008 Service to Others display, "Looking at Pictures/ Vive les arts"; and conferred the 2009 Service to Others Award to Pauline Trudel on behalf of the "Project Causeway". We also received greetings from Ron Poste, the Provincial Past President of RTO/ERO.

We have planned a “Ringing in Retirement” cocktail party for September 10 at the Chimo Inn from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Please come and bring some recently retired former colleagues and friends. Information and registration form are located in the fall edition of Horizons 27.

District 27's Annual General Meeting will be held on November 19 at the Hunt Club Golf and Country Club. At this meeting we will honor RTO/ERO members with the Exceptional Service Award. The nomination form is on page 30 of this edition of Horizons 27. Please nominate worthy members. Our Annual General Meeting also has a business component: receiving reports on our District activities, reporting on our financial situation, and electing our Executive and Board of Directors members for 2010.

We have a good team on the present executive and board but all good teams need to refresh and replenish by adding NEW members. Each year some members move on and we need a healthy balance of new and experienced members. This year we will require a TREASURER, members to assist in organizing our luncheons and SOCIAL activities, and members to form a POLITICAL action committee to help raise concerns affecting seniors. Please consider volunteering some of your time to any of these or other areas of interest. Don't be shy. We are friendly and will welcome you with a smile and plenty of encouragement. Remember, MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK.

 We are looking forward to hearing from you and meeting you on September 10, November 19, or at the 80 Plus Reception on October 7, if you are over 80 years old.
